Traffic Heading North from Nerrols 3 and Gladmans

The council is using a traffic report which only considers traffic heading south from these developments and completely ignores the impact of north-bound traffic. More importantly it does not contain any local knowledge of these lanes which is crucial for understanding the suitability of the largely single track lanes to cope with extra traffic.

Of course, better than any computer model is real evidence. Historically these roads have, at times, needed to carry some extra capacity (e.g. due to road works elsewhere causing diversions), and this extra traffic has lead to immediate congestion, gridlock and damage. Unfortunately, it is a clear, unarguable vision of what will happen once extra traffic is forced onto these roads from the planned developments.

With passing places sporadic and only being suitable for one or two passing cars, increases in traffic

volumes rapidly overwhelms these lanes.

In addition these roads are frequently closed due to flooding, sometimes for weeks at a time.

Finally, the busy village school is just a few hundred meters away from the developments. Understandably, school pick up, drop off and school events lead to the road being all but blocked regularly.

All these factors lead to driver frustration, anger and accidents. The photos document damage to cars, property, and motorist confrontations. Recently the Somerset air ambulance was required to rush a child to hospital as a result of a collision.

Planners and their highway reports cannot choose to ignore these issues.
